Replying to a brief

Reply to the Monday brief in plain sentences and Triad files each one on the partner it is about

Replying to a brief

The Monday brief comes from Triad on your workspace's behalf. Reply to it the way you would reply to a colleague: one short paragraph per thing you want to tell it. You never pick a partner or fill in a form.

How Triad files your reply

Triad reads your reply against the brief you are answering and splits it into statements, usually one per paragraph. Each statement becomes an activity on the partner it is about, with your words exactly as you wrote them.

Triad works out the partner in this order:

  • a paragraph that starts with a partner's name, such as "Halcyon: this is the SCY deal", is that partner's;
  • a paragraph that names exactly one partner is that partner's;
  • a paragraph that names a deal or a person the brief listed under one partner is that partner's, so "We lost Tessaline" lands on the partner whose section named Tessaline.

A line that only introduces the rest, such as "A few updates:", is skipped.

What else a statement can do

  • A next step. "I need to get with Jo about it" adds an open next step on that partner, owned by you, with no due date unless you give one.
  • People. "Jo and I both know Priya" records Jo, you and Priya together on the activity, so Triad stops saying Priya is known through one person.
  • A deal correction or outcome. These come back as suggestions you accept. See What Triad does from a reply.
  • A question for Triad. "Why is Brightline quiet?" is answered in the same thread.

When Triad cannot tell

If Triad cannot tell which partner a statement is about, it replies once in the thread with a numbered list: "Which partner is Orvex with?" Reply with the partner's name and it files the answer on the same brief. Nothing goes to the Capture Inbox, and you are never asked to choose from a list.

Who can reply

Replies are filed from members of your workspace and from addresses you trusted on your forwarding alias. A reply from anyone else waits in the Capture Inbox, where you can trust the sender.
